Hypothetically place yourself in a situation - hospitalization, death in the family, financial trouble, other health issues etc. Would you still be there for this person? Would they be there for you if the situation was reversed?
Sometimes lust can turn into love. It is a long and sometimes painful process though as you sort through those feelings.
I met my "lust" 7-1/2 years ago, we have been married now for almost 3 years! Now happily he is both my love and my lust!!

Love remembers. Lust forgets

When it's lust, it's purely physical. A part of you may also like their personality, but mostly, you just have the hots for them & want to ravage them. You have withdrawal symptoms when you can't see this person everyday...a common sign that people often misinterpret as "love." It's actually lust. You want to see this person all of the time, but part of it is just the fact that you're insecure & obsessed & you NEED to spend all of your time with them. That's infatuation, not love.

When it's love, the person is your best friend. You feel 100% comfortable around them, tell them everything, & you don't NEED to see them every second of everyday because you know in your heart that no matter how long you're apart, they'll be waiting for you the entire time & they'll be there when you get back, still waiting. Love is trust. There is no love if there is no trust. Love is being able to have a balance in your life between your friends & your significant other & being able to divide your time between the person you're with & your friends. Love is NOT spending all of your time with your significant other & no time with your friends. That's obsession, infatuation, & insecurity.

That's the best way I can differentiate the attributes of love & lust. Hope I helped.

Lust is very intense and short lived. Love starts off slow and grows as time goes on.

Lust doesnt last that long, and after a while you really just only want the sex, theres nothing else there and you have long awkward silences all the time. Basically when you see no future.

There's entire books on this subject. A good rule of thumb though is whether a couple enjoys hanging out with one another despite not having sex. If a couple has common ground other than the physical attraction it might be love.

Love is from the heart, lust is from below. You can have both, but your heart will be the one to tell you that the feelings are coming from the right head

Lust is mutual and consensual sexual use . . . love is mutual and consensual caring. Both are needed and all the feelings and emotions inbetween for a successful relationship.

Time will tell. Lust dims. Love grows.

Love lasts and remain stronger and stronger every day, every minute. Lust lasts for a short period and diminishes every time you had satisfaction.

Love involves care and consideration.

Lust excludes care.
