When your brain is deprived of oxygen for more that 3 minutes, brain cells begin to die. If oxygen is restored, the person will live but the damage remains. The damage can present in various ways, memory loss, speech problems, loss of coordination, etc. This is called an Anoxic Brain Injury. After 4-5 minutes, death usually results.
