I am British, but I have visited America, met a lot of Americans abroad, and had American friends on my home turf. I have found them to be very nice, polite and well-mannered, both the ladies and gentlemen, and by-and-large very well educated.

Now I know this is of course not representative of the whole US population (an observation that works both ways, of course), but do we really have to lay in to each other so much? Our nations are allies, have been since the Independence.

Isn't it sad when we're at war together in the Middle East (justified or not), with very few other friends, and yet we have to bicker between ourselves? It verges on pathetic.

The total lack of respect for our nation's war veterans (particularly as far as WW2 is concerned) on this site is sickening; the Americans saved us, no they didn't, yes they did etc etc.

Can't we just accept that tens of millions of our guys, girls and children died so we could slander them 60 years on?

Let's get along?

Hey well if your not with them your against them - and if your against them your a terrorist or at least a terrorist lover

why would anyone have anti american sentimens - dont you just love their gun tooting police state where they put you in hand cuffs for throwing a cigarette out a car window, and the cool shows they put on tv showing real criminals (black people) getting shot up and sh*t and yeeeeaaaaaaaa - its so AWESOOOOOOMMMMMEEE

i love their clear breach of UN policies , refusal to curb pollution even as the wealthies country on earth , their televisoion that shows news broadcasts in california that dont even cover whats happening in new york let alone the rest of the world - and even if the news was reported on its complete bullsh*t , sugar coated propaganda anyway , the constant commercails for medicines for illness the rest of the world didnt even know existed and that cause side effects that are worse than your original ailment.

Isnt it so cute when an american asks me if there is water between ireland and england and when they tell my irish friend how he speaks such good english.

hey now im just moaning about how americans dont have a concept of what the rest of the world is (or where it is) but I shouldnt really, beacuse it dosent matter - america is big enough and its the only place that counts anyway. you only need to travel outside the country if your gonna join the army and go kick *** in some third world terrorist sh*thole like .....em ....oh i dont know .....islamistan? is that a country?

i love their rich cultural history - there such a subtle sophistication that just oozes from the place

ok now im boring myself here - if you've read this far fair play to you. youre either disgusted or amused or maybe just bored.

I have family there - spent a lot of time there - have travelled alot there - my brothers marrying an american woman who is very nice and i loved the time that i spent living and working there and made many friends

but hey if you dont have grumpy b*stards and humour then what
kind of life would we lead

i love to hate the f*ckers

ps . sorry about the spelling grammer etc - i couldnt be bothered to fix it :)

I understand your frustration completely. No reasonable person can deny the affect that American troops had on the outcome of WWII. Their importance simply cannot be downplayed. However, I think people are lashing out at this historical issue to vent the anger they have for Americans today on the global stage. American policy in the Muslim world has been quite poor for the past 35 years, and all of their foreign policy under the Bush Administration has burned too many bridges to count. They are enraged and sickened and may not be able to channel their anger properly or express it a eloquently as they would like. And this I understand also. To try to get my frustration with current foreign policy into a quick, coherent paragraph would be nearly impossible. It is so complicated and twisted it gives me a headache just thinking about it. When you hear someone ranting, just know they either have been grossly misinformed or are venting on another issue. Does this make it right? No, but remember, we are, after all, human.

If I had to pick a place to live other than my own country (U.S.), it would be England. I love the English people and their customs.
I remember seeing a quote somewhere when I was young about the English...."You can always count on the English to be an ally of the U.S."
I believe it.
And as far as the veterans, especially the WWII veterans, I have a great deal of respect for all of them. My father was in WWII in the Pacific on a B-29 Superfortress out of the Philippines. We need more like that generation.

I have no problems with Americans, apart from when they use the answer 'you would be speaking German if it wasn't for us' too almost every question that they see as a threat, as if we were just rolling over and letting the Germans win! We (and other countries) were fighting for years, Americans came in too later to make that kind of claim. Of course I would never disrespect the memory of any soliders who died in the war (American or English) they ALL died for our freedom. However I am deeply against Americans holding it over our heads that they helped win.

Yes i agree and have the greatest respect for Americans. I do not believe in living in the past though and as far as the religious aspect (or lack of in my case),and the way forward i also feel we have lots to learn from continental Europe.

I am perfectly willing to get along. I love our friends across the pond. There is ONE condition however....

You have to admit that our version of The Office is funnier than your's.

And in return I'll admit that the best American actors are British (Tim Roth, Hugh Laurie, Gary Oldman).

My family roots are in England and in Scotland and I have always
had a very special love and affection for the U.K. and your people
and I will always be grateful to England for "sending" the Beatles into our world in 1964....They brought alot of happiness to alot of people and music that the world will never forget or equal....It was
ALL such a wonderful and happy time in this world....

I am also grateful and happy that the U.K. - along with Israel -- are
both our closest friends and allies today as in the past.

I so admire your pm TONY BLAIR, just as I admired Margaret Thatcher and Winston Churchill.

It was BRITAIN and WINSTON CHURCHILL who really stood alone against the satanic evil that was hitler and the nazis and I don't even want to THINK what the world would be like today if not
for WINSTON CHURCHILL....and surely TONY BLAIR is carrying
on in the same spirit to stand against the evil of islamo-FASCIST terrorism and murder in the world today.... I am very sorry that he will be stepping down as PM later this year. It will be hard to re-place him!! :-(

GOD BLESS THE UK...GOD BLESS ISRAEL...AND GOD BLESS THE U.S.A....FOREVER.....

LOVE TO YOU ALWAYS!!!

People just want to pick everyone else apart instead of examining their own short comings. Human nature. Nothing at all to do with country but more to do with the human condition.

i agree... why must everyone bicker?
[ i must say, i am a liberal, i do *not* do what the slanderous 'angelpurplewings' says. she sounds a bit hypocritical in her generalized attack on liberals. ]

personally, i think people should be taken as individuals, not lumped into groups and categorized, then judged by the actions of a few.

the KFC chain claim "there is sufficient demand for halal (allowed) meat". there is sufficient demand for free beer but is anyone offering it??. it is just another example of the spineless attitude we have come to expect from the multinational companies when dealing with muslims. somebody should sit down and analyse the way they live (stonings/rapes/beheadings/systematic cruelty) and completely ostracise them if they cannot amend their primitive and draconian ways.-fathers have been known to have the daughters who displease them raped and murdered-and you get idiots come in here telling us WE are out of order for refusing to accept this way of life. if i were to hang a defenceless animal upside down and slit its throat so it slowly bleeds to death in the name of tradition i would be brought before a magistrate on charges of animal cruelty. somebody should tell the muslims they are in contravention of the countryside and wildlife act 1981 which makes it a criminal offence to cause unnecessary suffering to any animal wild or domesticated-this carries a £5000 fine and/or 6 months imprisonment. but i doubt anything will be said.
