Another solution is to download the free, open source software called Open Office. It is free and completely compatible with Office. We use it at our small business and we love it.
Check it out at www.openoffice.org. Once downloaded you should be able to open any saved word docs depending on how the expired beta things effects your documents.

When you downloaded MO2007 it should not have deleted your previous Word package (which I assume was either Works or Office 2003) thus you should be able to retrieve the previous version even if this means re-installing it.

If you have office 2003 then you can use that.
Alternatively, you can try open office software which I believe is free.
Or, if you really want to cheat, download a copy of the full software from somewhere like www.torrentspy.com or use emule

you could have downloaded an extention to the beta from microsoft so that it is valid until 31st march try here;
