Preface: If you answer is "I dont believe" or fine you can leave that answer if you wish but it is not what I'm looking for. If you wish you had reson to believe I hope to get some good answers here.
The Question: For christian believers, what are the things that most cause you to believe in God. Smaller more specific answers would be more appreciated than general ones. Two things that wow me are below.
that so many of the old testament laws given while they may have made no sence at the time in retrospect were good for the people (food laws actually propmoted better health unbeknowst to the isrealites)
Or that the creation account revealed to such primitve people must have been divinely inspired to recocnise that there was a beginning. That light matter and people did not always exist. Also that plants and sea creatures came before land animals and finally humans. Which is the account science now gives us but in a greatly simplified version.

Yes I know that these concepts nor any other thing can prove God, but they are wow to me.
Also why do you believe in the Bible and christianity vs other religions. How is Chrisianity proven to you more so than other religions?

Dear Gaila: Can I be allowed more than one small paragraph?
Science has decided God can NOT be disproved. Instead, presently, science perceives "itself" to be smack up against Him, and is desperate to prove Him. The latest is the String Theories (all 5 of them) and M Theory (Master Theory). But, God will never be a mathematical formula. Science is an "inspired" field, yet I see no future in trying to give calculations for God. Science is more likely to declare His existence by eliminating, finally, everything BUT Him. His divine Nature; the ecstasy, unlimitedness, the unopposed force of the Creative Being, of Who we are a part, simply isn't meant to be a calculation.
God is expansive : He Creates more of Himself. As a Spirit-Mind He Created more spirit-minds. In our physical experience which is led by the human Intellect, that part of us Created by God is behind the Intellect. It can be brought forward and become the center of your thoughts or thinking. When this occurs, through spiritual study or inviting Jesus and the Holy Spirit to teach you through Their Knowledge (quickly offered to you) we reach a "place," within, that is in alignment with God, Himself. Our experiences within that alignment are proof of His Being and proof that we did not just make each other. We experience being the sons of God, while simultaneously the sons of Man. We all have a hidden Soul that holds the Knowledge of our Creator. Intimacy is of the Mind. God is our intimacy.

The primary reason I believe in God is that I don't have enough faith to believe that ridiculous evolution nonsense. What are the odds that you could throw a bunch of transistors and wires into a cement mixer and tumble them for, say 100 billion years, and out would come an iPod? It takes a lot less faith to believe that the iPod had an intelligent designer, in this case the fine folks at Apple. How much more the odds of the origin of the human intelligencte? Besides, in my example, where did the wires and transistors come from? The cement mixer? The energy to tumble the cement mixer? And so on?

I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior because of the peace and love I felt in His presence (atheists don't get this, but the Bible says where two or more believers worship, He is with us.... and you CAN feel His presence). Since that time, I have witnessed many miracles and had overwhelming senses of fear and evil replaced by joy and security, simply from praying for His help. These things can be hard to understand until you open your heart and invite Jesus into your life, but they are VERY real.
Atheists mock this and scream that we are deluding ourselves, but in their outrage, they show a lack of peace and understanding that shows that they are missing something in their own lives. Think about this analogy:
A man decides to go fishing. Down the shore, he sees a professional fisherman pulling on fish after another out of the lake. Yet he fails to catch a single fish. Instead of asking the pro how he is doing it, the man tells him that the lake is empty and that he is an idiot for fishing there.
Christians are the professional fishermen.
Have a great day, Jesus loves you.

i'm an atheist through fact i've got not got faith in gods. What might info of a god not latest look like? might it possibly look like: fairly no info that they do? The universe giving each indication of being a organic prevalence? Prayers not being replied and authentic believers ravenous to dying? sickness, parasites which feed on human eyeballs latest? different cultures having different gods which share their values incredibly than the same god being stumbled on by human beings in each single place as occurs with issues which do exist? a super form of the worlds species having long previous extinct? Asteroids, organic disaster, severe drought, famine, flood hitting earth and destroying existence? human beings having stepped forward from different existence varieties which no god ever has suggested? No god ever understanding issues the human beings did not be conscious of and getting a super form of stuff incorrect? some gods being witnessed being invented - see shipment cults?

I hate people that believe it is intellegence suicide if you believe in God! Why do you feel this way? After all of your brilliant searchings did you find that there is no way God to exist? Put it this way me dear friends: You say we can never prove God does exist, but you can never prove that he doesn't.

Neither were the main factors in my conversion to Christ. I heard the gospel of Jesus Christ, was convicted of my sin and need for a savior and gave my life to Him by faith. After doing that, He revealed Himself to me. He is as real in my life as anyone with flesh and bone are.
What makes you think Adam and Eve were primitive? They came "pre-programed" so to speak. According to scripture they were not stupid "cavemen" who could barely talk. Adam was a bright zoologist and he named many if not all of the animals shortly after being created.

My primary reason was that I found life to be meaningless and hopeless without him. Nowadays, God has been with me so many times, my belief isnt just rooted in pure hope, but experience!

I believe in God because creationism seems a lot more likely than a "Big Bang" that eventually led to single celled life that evolved into the many species that we see today. I believe in Christianity, because I think that it has the most relevance in todays world as compared to the other God believing religions.

I don't think the "food laws" prove anything. It wasn't rocket science to notice people got really sick when they ate undercooked pork and seafood. How many ancients figured out when the winter solstice was and built alignments with rocks to glorify the event?

It`s a matter of faith and knowing. I try the princibles of the bible and they work everytime. I don`t understand why you don`t? It`s so simple to do; I think people want a intricate philosophical reasoning for God. God made the bible simple for you to understand so you can enjoy Him.
