if you want to learn hebrew, go to berlitz and learn. if you decided to pick up hebrew, then you will realize what is the translation for "bridge builder" and "to build a bridge".

please note: almost everybody in Israel speaks English and Hebrew

I wish the very best luck.

Hebrew Word For Bridge

2017-01-20 20:46:35 · answer #2 · answered by Erika 3 · 0 0

In Hebrew "bridge builder" is:

בונה גשר
"bowneh gesher"

In Aramaic, depending on dialect, there are several ways to say it. It could be either:

ארדכלא דגשרין
"ardekhla d-geshrin"
(Ancient Aramaic)

בניא דגשרין
"banaya d-geshrin"
(Jewish Aramaic and other western dialects)

בניא דגשרא or ܒܢܝܐ ܕܓܫܪܐ
"banaya d-geshre"
(Syriac, Mandaic, and many modern dialects)

All literally mean "builder of bridges."

In Hebrew "to build a bridge" is:

לבנות גשר
"livnowt gesher"

In Aramaic, it generally is:

מבני לגשרא or ܡܒܢܝ ܠܓܫܪܐ
"mebney l-geshra"

I don't know aramaic, but in hebrew bridge builder is:
בונה גשר
pronounced 'boneh gesher'
and, to build a bridge is:
לבנות גשר
pronounced 'livnote gesher'

Hope this helps!

While the literal translation of "bridge builder" in Hebrew is "boneh gesher", I though you might be interested in a more idiomatic form since you're looking to name a youth group.
To that effect, I would suggest "Hamegashrim" or even better, "Hagoshrim":
The first means to bridge a gap (as in between people or cultures), unify, connect
The second is also derived from the word "gesher" (bridge) as and is the name of a kibbutz in northern Israel that was founded by Jewish-Turkish immigrants and was so named to symbolize a bridge between the Jewish exile and the land of Israel.
