All puppies are hyper. They just have alot of puppy fuel to burn off. Your puppy is also teething, which is why he's chewing & biting. He chews to relieve the pain in his gums. Give him some ice cubes to chew on, or get a wash cloth, get it damp, twist it, and then freeze it for 25 minutes, then let him chew on it. It works.

Smack him on the nose when he bites. Make sure you get the point across that biting means pain on his nose. Buy a puppy training book. Give him lots of toys to release energy with and take him on walks and stuff. Lawn mower tires (or any small thick tires) work great for chew toys for hyper dogs...trust me, I know. lol

that's what puppies do! when he bites hard, gently grab the sides of his muzzle with your fingers and push him downwards a bit - this will pull up instincts in your pup that should make him feel like he's done something wrong. Adult wolves and wild dogs do the same thing with their teeth to show who's in charge. there's not much you can do about the hyper part - he'll grow out of it as he gets older.

I have a new puppy too that likes to bite. The vet told me to replace whatever he should not be chewing on (me) with an acceptable toy. I have also resorted to using Bitter Apple spray on furniture and carpet.

Hyperactive is pretty much their second name, every single one of these pesky but lovable puppies.
Wait there are more names common to all of them
" Bad boy !" "Bad Girl "" No!" What will I do with you?" "Arggghh " and "Ouch stop that"
This is the stage where you will learn to establish the "I am the boss so do what I say "rules and therefore, much as you hate punishing your puppy, you have to teach it acceptable social behaviour.
Train yourself first, be serious and firm when you tell your pup not to do something. LIke a human child, it will try to continue doing what you do not want it to do,so remain constant in acting displeased when he does something he is not supposed to do.
Be very effusive and act happy when he does something good.

Get him a bouncy chew toy with a rop thingy attached so that he can wrestle with you, but bite the toy. Puppies like to play rough and you cant' really calm them down. They calm down with age.

honey all pups are hyper actice listen here's some choices.
1. play with him. let him chase you around the yard and get him tired.
2. get him some chew toys and throw them and get him to bring them back. (the more you throw the faster he/she tires)
and if he/she bites again smack it's nose and say "NO! Bad Puppy!!" and it will learn not to bite.

If this is happening when you first get up or come home. you need to ignore the puppy until you see he/she has calmed down. puppies are overexcited for affection when they first see their owner, give him/her about 5 to 7 minutes to calm down before approaching. eventually the pup will realize if i calm down i will get attention and love. it sounds cruel, but its for the good of both of you. GOOD LUCK!!!

Every time he goes to bite, have the toy on hand and trade in with that.
This way he will be become accustomed to knowing that is what the toys are for, and not your body parts! :)
