Travel agents are a dying breed. With all of the internet booking sources, and people being so much more independent and able to book on their own, travel agencies really aren't as useful anymore. Yes, the ones that have been around for a long time are very knowledgeable, but they have lost most of their commissions from the airlines, and once they book the initial reservations and take the "service fee" from the client, they don't give much assistance afterwards. WORST PART... you will get the wrath of every passenger that loses a seat assignment, has a schedule change, etc. etc, etc... Better off working for ONE airline, than having to explain why the flight schedule has been changed, or why a tour has been cancelled by a tour operator. People are very demanding when it comes to their vacations and getting the most for their money. I don't recommend going to travel school. I know somebody who did it, and couldn't hack the customer complaints, so she quit within 2 months of getting her job... a total waste of her tuition and training at the agency...and that was YEARS ago, before everyone started online booking themselves.

Does anyone use them anymore? I remember that one large one used to have on the job training. I would contact one and inquire if they offer that.
