I've been looking online to see if there are relief programs out there that will either pay your air fare or reimburse you for air fare if you want to volunteer with the Hurricane Katrina rebuilding efforts, but I have not found any. I'd like to help, but cannot afford to fly out there from Oregon.

Showing up in Louisana without a specific goal doesn't sound like a good idea. I commend your interest in helping out and we Oregonians are resourceful people. So I'm sure your help would be both welcome. I would go to news.yahoo.com and do a few searches to find out who is doing relief work in either New Orleans or one of the many other smaller communities that were hit so hard by Katrina. Then I'd look up how to get ahold of those companies, find those asking for volunteers or with positions open and then contact them. Ask them if the will pay for reasonable relocation expenses. That way you will have a place to work and a roof over your head when you get to LA.

And contrary to what the previous responder said, my aunt is working with FEMA as a resource coordinator. She isn't working with Katrina relief anymore, but they send her to various locations throughout the United States - for up to 18 days a month - and yes, they fly her, pay for her expenses, and pay her a very nice salary to boot.

Go by bus or hitch-hike, then. No charitable organisation is going to waste its funds to fly you in - forget that, it will never happen.

Just a note for the next answerer - your aunt is a fairly senior paid employee of a government agency, whereas this asker just wishes to volunteer. Whilst your aunt is jetted here, there and everywhere, my comment above still stands. It is not right that you are building up false hopes for prarydog, who just wants to help. You have given a seriously misleading answer, based solely upon your misunderstanding of the reality of the situation. Think about it, please.

Any wound, no matter if stitched or not, heals better effective and swifter at the same time as that is roofed with a sterile bandage. opposite to correctly-known perception, leaving it uncovered to the air does not help. extremely, it will boost the prospect of bacteria getting into contact with the wound, that could in hardship-free words extend healing.
