OK.. no lecture...
In california this is a MOVING violation so you will get a brownie point on your license.
If you have not gone to traffic school (or whatever they call it this month) you can request that option. You will still pay the fine (plus the school costs) and the ticket will show on your record, but you will have the point expunged.
OR. ... you can go to court and tell the judge that you did not realize that you only had your parking lights on.. thats pretty common and maybe he/she will give you a 'get out of jail card this time'.
good luck

There's a phone number on your ticket for the court. Call and ask them. If it is a moving violation, which I believe it is, you will receive a point or more. Yes, this could cause your insurance to go up. California offers driving school as an option. For a few bucks, this would be a better alternative than raised insurance. Ask the court clerk what you can do to keep from getting points. If you have a good record, they will likely allow driving school, or offer another alternative. Good luck!

Most states require lights, headlights on after dusk. In Canada, if the weather is inclement (light rain, overcast, etc) you must have headlights on.
If you are driving with only parking lights or running, fog lamps on the a ticket may be given. It's considered a moving violation and is subject to having points awarded to your driving record. In Michigan, the first offense is $65-85 dollars and 2 points. Yes, your insurance MAY be surcharged for that action.

Points on your license differ from state to state. Individual insurance companies set how they charge for offenses, and sometimes that depends upon what state you're in. You should be able to find a phone number on your ticket to find out what will go against your license. As for insurance, you can call your insurer and ask . . . but that will most likely alert them of the ticket. That won't matter for long because they periodically run an MVR to see if you've gotten any tickets or had accidents, so they'll find out anyhow. Good luck!

You need to call your insurance agent. Every insurance company is different so you need to go to the source.
On a side note... lame reason for the cop to give you a ticket! Must have been Highway Patrol... they're so tight!
