There's probably an answer to your question, but something better might be to consider a web browser with tabbed browsing, such as Firefox or IE7. That way you can just open in another tab and not have your window "stolen".
You can download Firefox for free as well. Give it a try.

I am using IE 7 so I don't know for sure but click on tools, internet options, advanced tab and see if there is an option that says open brower in another window...

Firefox: go to Tools, Options, Tabs, choose New Tab or New Window
Internet Explorer: go to Tools, Internet Options, General, Tabs Settings, choose yer preference there, too

Get Firefox to replace IE and you will fall in love the "tabbed" browsing feature. Firefox has an option to have new links open in new tab without interfering with the one you are currently viewing. It is free check out their website.
