I just read my local paper and a 2nd grade male teacher at my childrens previous school was discovered to be a child molester. My children may have come in contact with this person as they were 1st and 2nd grade at the time (My friend still has a 3rd grade child in the school). The district is only counseling the children who told, and mailed out letters to the parents who are currently in the school who were students of his. Does the district owe us more than that? Is it suffient to think that he did nothing and that my children were safe? The teacher went to the after school program and asked children to do chores in the class (my children were in the program). Should I bring this to my childrens attention about the teacher? I have talked witih my children about inappropite behavior and touching but just disccused this subject this past summer (after things could have happened). My children are 8 and 9 years of age? What to do?

The school has notified you of what is going on. Now it's your turn to do the research. I would definitely talk with the children, and in an age-appropriate manner, ask them questions about that teacher.

Well, I would hope that you have already explained to your children that no one should ever touch them in a way that they do not want to be touched and if something like that happens tell you right away. They usually threaten children that thier parents will be hurt so you want to assure them that nothing will happen to you if they tell you what happened. You may want to talk to them and let them know its perfectly safe to tell if they have something to tell and that its not in any way thier fault if it did happen.. Then therapy..

As for your district. Unfortunatley the reason why so many of them are able to do this is because legally thier hands are probably tied and they are doing all they can do within the extent of the law. It shocks me that the laws against pedophiles are so lenient. Its embarrassing.

In the meantime,we need to think about the laws for sexual crimes against children.. They get released back into our neighborhoods way too often. Hopefully, if enough people become aware and let thier representative know that this is unacceptable, we may get the laws changed to put these people away for life. They do not need to be in the streets putting our kids in danger.

It is up to you to do your investigation. Is the teacher still working? Of what was he actually convicted of? I knew of a similar situation where the news reported of a child molester in the area but it was a man who was convicted when he was 19 for having sex with his girlfriends who was under age and ten years later they were still married but his record shows child molester. Find out the facts and then go from there. Talk to your kid and improper behavior from adults as a precaution.

Yes, it is sufficient that the school is doing something...I assume they just discovered the situation. Why would your children need counceling if nothing happened. Why would you bring this to the attention of your children if nothing happened to them, and you have covered inappropriate behavior towards them by adults. That would be like one random day addressing death, no reason, just because.

What is it you think the school owes you and why? There was no injury or injustice done to you or your family. I guess I am just lost on your point, yes it sucks he was a cho-mo, but WHAT?

Wow, you do no longer only have a difficulty with one man or woman yet many. Cursing them out each and all the time rather isn't doing something so if it facilitates you experience greater advantageous decide for it, otherwise do no longer hassle. in actuality do no longer provide those people any interest in any respect. Why no longer only sit down on your very own at lunch, no ought to sit down down with a team that dislikes you. examine a e book, somebody will ultimately be attracted to communique and sit down with you. each and every so often only secluding your self from it is terrific, only get to be attentive to your self and develop into greater effective and then attempt to return to the team. As for the guy in college, only be honest. tell him look i do no longer care the way you experience approximately me quit bitching and moaning and recover from it. issues will turn around, ultimately you will locate those with trouble-free pastimes who would be happy to stick by skill of you and you wont care what those people say. do no longer enable it harm your self-well worth, i be attentive to its rather troublesome while your youthful, yet once you enable it issues would be the two greater stable for you while your older. i admire her answer!~ and that i'm no longer attempting to thieve her answer! :)

Just ask them in a casual conversation. Dont scare them or say "DID YOU EVER GET TOUCHED BY THAT MAN????".

I think if you brought it up very very carefully... such as "Hey, remember Mr. SonSo? Was he cool?" "I heard he came to the after school program and hung out with you guys there, is that true"... and if they say yes "Did you ever help him out in his classroom just for fun"... type of conversation.

This is just my opinion but...I'd transfer my kids to a different school. You can never be too careful. Also what's up with a school hiring a convicted child molester.
