We tend to lean toward more warm colors and my husband refuses to paint the wood trim, because it matches the hardwood floors. I want to brighten everything up! Thx!

Yes I agree leave the wood trim. For a man it is harder to accept color. Try a Toupe or a light brown that is with in the same color scheme as your wood floors.

Then you can accent with color using bold or warm colors what ever makes you comfortable. Designing a room is best done when both partners agree on what is acceptable. But don't agree to something usless you are happy too, since you have to live there as well.

Color swatches at your local paint store don't do the rooms justice, so what I do with my clients is that I bring several pints of color to the home and try them on the wall. I paint a 3X3 area and let it dry. Sometimes I will do up to 4 colors and leave them there for 3-4 days then it is easier to pick what you will fall in love with. Good luck!

Natural wood finishes are best kept. Use a good neutral color like a beige. There are many to choose from. The darker, the smaller the room will work. Some paint places offer coordinating pallets so that you can pull the color scheme together. Use a good quality paint. It's with the extra bucks. Spend time prepping the area: Remove outlet covers,Protect the wood with tape and use a curved paint shield.Clean the walls well. Dry between coats. Any color if lightened enough can be used as a neutral colour. Have fun and double the time you think it will take.Have fun, don't stress, painting isn't fun but can be. Have a great day.

Choose clay colors, taupe& tan biscuit colors. The dark trim acts like an outline. The pictures, art and stuff on the walls will be hightlighted nicely with the colors.
Light colors do not always lighten up a room. If you have dark wood trim - go with medium colors so it won't be a harsh contrast. You can do a lot with lighting if you want to keep things bright and airy.
