In the UK it is not a requirement to be a police cadet to become a police constable. Although it would help in terms of experience. Joining the special constbulary is also a fantastic way of getting experience and especially on the job experience which would benefit you in the course of your application and interview for the regular job.

But strictly speaking, there is no requirement to be a police cadet!

Police cadets not required. If you are young & want to join the police the normal advice you are now given is to join as a PCSO first for a couple of years as an introduction & to get some experience & relevant skills.

Do you think they will just give you a badge and a gun if you watch all of the Police Academy movies back to back?

Training is necessary.

most jurisdictions require you to be certified before they'll give you a badge, and that requires attending an accredited Police Academy program
