Game. Fun one.

All three. For some it (and ALL gambling including the lotto) it is a disease. They are a tiny minority of the population (probably less than 1%) but they still exist and if they have that problem they need to get help from places like GA.

For a large percentage of the population, especially in the US it is a game. It's a fun way to maybe lose a couple bucks and maybe win a couple. They may not know how likely they are to do either, but they have fun. They probably lose less in a month than a person who loves video games spends on new games and their Warcraft subscription.

For another small percentage it is a job. With the advent of the internet it is a larger group than it used to be, but it is still a small percentage of the poker playing community. There's no real doubting it can be a job, you can even find articles on how people use it as a job in http://www.theultimatepokerguide.com and their Tips from the Pros archive. But it is HARD to do as a job. Really hard.

Poker is obviously a game, by definition. Since it is possible to consistently win at it, it can also be a job for some people who play poker professionally.

Poker does not meet the definition of disease, but it is true that some people can become quite addicted to the game. But this addiction is not a physical dependency it is merely a weakness of character and lack of self discipline.

For most it's a game for fun, but for a few it's a job. It's an incredibly difficult game to make a living from, so most people will have to use it for entertainment, or just make some extra spending cash from it. I definitely would not classify it as a disease. People can develop a gambling problem, but what they really are addicted to is addiction itself. The problem lies in the person. not in the game. If it weren't gambling it would be drugs or alcohol instead.

For most it's a game, for the pros it's a job, and a pretty good one when you see them sit down to a friendly game and buy in for a million dollars.
Then there is that unfortunate percentage that would consider it a desease.
