Sometimes My Jeep will start up fine but then while Im driving it'll shut off automatically. I have to put it in neutral and starts up fine but won't maintain its revs. I recently purchased Carb cleaner but was iffy to use it. I also put an injector cleaner in my gas tank to help clean any build up. This staying on problem is dangerous. Cause my steerling wheel locks when this happens. Can anyone help? Could it be the gas filter?

Could very well be the gas filter- fuel pump or something else.
Is the CHECK ENGINE light ON? Or a POWER LIMITED light on? Did it come on the stay on for a while, and then after a while it went out by it's self?
You may have vacuum troubles- tune up troubles- electrical troubles.
1996 Jeep probably has around 150k miles. Too many things can be the problem. Call ASE certified repair shops and ask how much for diagnostics. You may have to spend $50.00- $80.00 just to find out what is wrong >BUT< if it dies again and you can not control it..... HOW DID YOU PUT IT?

Sounds like a wiring problem or hair line crack on Printed Circuit broad or cold solder joint. If it just shuts off for not reason and starts right back up.
Clogged fuel filters or partially clogged fuel filters are pretty consistant in how they act. Once they started limiting fuel supply they will not allow fuel to flow then shut it off then let it flow again in the matter you described.
Electric fuel pumps usually work or don't work unless they get trash in them. Since they are located in the gas tank that will mean you have been getting trashy gas. (Buying cheap gas) Trash will plug up input (intake) to fuel pump then when pump stopping pumping fall back off.input (intake)

Could be the filter, but it's not likely to shut it off completely.
More likely is the Fuel Pump that is failing. As it fails it tosses pieces into the filter, exacerbating the issue. You fuel filter is integrated into the fuel pump assembly, so replacing the assembly takes care of both. ~$265 part + $300 labor (add tow price if you wait until it dies on hwy).

If you have the time, replace the pump module and filter within the fuel pump assembly to save $100 on parts.

Describe how it turns off. if it rumbles or just turns off like you took out the key.
I somehow have the feeling that you have a bad oxygen sensor, which controls the fuel to air ratio, and can cause your engine to turn off from too high a mixture or too low.
