Probably. When I was in Africa, children would swarm around me examining my $20 watch. In the cities they new about cell phones but had never seen one. They had fabrics with printed images of cell phones on it. They also had fabrics with patters on Michael Jackson's face.

Witchcraft and evolution certainly. Cell phones being a product of technology that may serve the purpose of good would have possibly been acceptable.

Most definitely. It would be something they did not understand and in order for them to rationalize it they would turn to the only thing to them explained everything-witchcraft. As to evolution, as they had been taught that the Bible was the infallible word of God they would consider any theory of life being different from that recounted in Genesis as blasphemy.

The superstitious ones perhaps and not even the majority of those.
More ppl in those times were educated and reasonable... then came Columbus and you know the rest.
