Back in the days of Marie Antoinette, people did not bathe at all their entire lives.

That's when perfume was invented.

well, soap and powder (even plain corn starch) have been around for centuries, and they help with bo to some degree, as do other home remedies. But since they wouldn't be as effective ad deoderant, and people did more physical labor years ago, I guess it was more common, and more acceptable.
