My fiance left for AIT 2 days ago, and i've been stressed and crying. I realized, that 16 weeks will go by fast and there no is need for pain, just happiness for both of us! I saw someone of you have your husbands and wifes gone for 1-2 years! I

My question is, my fiance is gone to Ford Leowood, Missouri, for AIT. His knee was broken badly! and we didnt have enough money to pay for it, so its still sore. He still went to AIT, with a injuryed knee. He told me AIT ssg will help him through it.

After he finishes AIT, What happens, does he get deployed, to Germany, Iraq ? He told me they can't sent him over seas for some reason, can it be true?!

Thanks a lot everyone!!!

If he does go overseas, for how long?

Army life is hard. HE will still have to pass the PT tests, sore knee or not. They can put him on light duty, which means he does not have to do EVERYTHING, but in the end he still has to pass. My step daughter just graduated from Fort Lost in the Woods in October. She fractured her pelvis during AIT and still made it. They will work with him as best they can.

As far as being deployed goes, it depends on his job. He will go where ever he is needed, right now that will most likey be Iraq or Afghanistan. If his career is something that is not needed overseas, he will go somewhere stateside.
They can not send him anywhere until his training is complete. Once he is out of training and in the 'real' Army, he is free game to go where ever his unit is assigned.

The knee is a biggie. When the knee was broken makes a big difference. If it happened during Basic, it is the government's responsibility to make sure that it is taken care of. If they are continuing his training, then has has meet minimum medical standards and the military considers him a go. I am sure that the cadre will do their best to make sure that he can complete his training. The type of job he had dictates to a large degree how physical his training will be. On the whole, the military does attempt to medically take care of their own.

After AIT, he will be assigned to a permanent unit. This depends on his job and military shortages. It needs to be made clear that Iraq, Afghanistan, and Korea are a different assignment than Germany or state-side. He can be deployed overseas directly from AIT. I was recovering from a fractured ankle from Airborne School and went directly to Korea. Germany is a PCS move, or a permanent station. More than likely he will be assigned to a unit here in the United States and train with them until the entire unit deploys overseas. You are in for some long, hard stretches alone. Comes with being a military spouse. Once he is assigned to a unit, find out about their FRG or FSG, Family Readiness Group or Family Support Group. It is comprised of other spouses and family for soldiers within that unit. Good luck and God speed.

AH, Lost in the Woods, Misery.. No really. The base is OK. I am sure that the base docs will take a good look at him. If his injury is severe he might be Med-discharged, but i doubt it. Before he is deployed he must be sent to a unit. Considering the base that he is doing his training at i suspect that he is a support soldier. That means that he can go just about anywheres. They will however give him time after his graduation to make the arrangements for where he is going. Good luck.

If the injury is bad enough he will not deploy. He still can go to Germany or Korea (which you better hope doesn't happen). I am a military wife and I don't know anyone who has went to Korea and hasn't cheated. Any more questions that I can help with, email me. Good luck, your are going down a long road. You are very special to be with a military man.

I have two son's in the Army, they will work with him, but they may have to discharge him if the knee was so bad that he can't pass his physical testing..

It is hard to let them go and support them as they go through this.. First thing you need to do, is stay calm and let him work it out..

If he is in a 16 week program it is called OSUT, which is One Station Unit Training.. My son is at fort knox right now doing his..

Just keep writting him and letting him know how proud you are of him.. Do you have their website?.. Once he gets through the first 9 weeks, you will or should be able to visit him.. Hang in there!!..

If he is in the Army and has a broken knee, he should be in an Army hospital getting it taken care of. The U.S. Army does still have hospitals I believe. He doesn't have to pay for it. If it is only sore, then it is heeling and he would not be sent to training with a badly injured knee.

It's Ft. Leonard Wood FYI (you might need to address mail that way). After AIT, he will be assigned to a permanent unit. I am not sure why he told you he can't be sent overseas. Maybe he already has orders??? That is a question you should pose to him.

he may be ineligible for overseas deployment because of his knee..however, he WILL have to serve a tour overseas at some point. if you're married, you may be able to go with him. if not, you'll be separated until he returns. good luck
