Yes I get a lot from my vipassana meditation practice including learning more about myself, facing my fears, and being more at peace with myself and the world around me. So I would definitely say I've benefitted from it.

Speaking of completing - do you mean working on one problem or situation at a time and say - completing a meditation on that particular thing? If so - it's an ongoing process. Once you succeed, you can still fail. So you have to keep at it and remain mindful of what you're learning from your meditation practice.

It takes more than one session on the meditation cushion to get results... and yes, of course it benefits, so does shamatha and analytical meditation.

My wife did several 10-day retreats, Goenka-style, and she meditates every day.

What she gets mainly, she says, is equanimity.
