I don't think it is skills that you can't get anywhere else, it is just a way to allow someone to get the skills early on. My neice just started her first job and the reason my brother is making her work is for her to learn how to be responsble. She is already responsible with school and in general, but this gives her the opportunity to make her own money that she has to be responsible with. This also makes her learn time management skills so that when she goes onto college and HAS to work, she will know how to make sure her homework gets done, she gets to class on time everytime and changes her work schedule to suit those needs.

Its important to learn how to take orders with a smile even though you more than likely hate your job and your boss. You'll also learn the value of a dollar when youre working 30 hours a week and only getting 150 dollars. Basically, life is hard, and working sucks, but its important to learn early so that you're more motivated to do well in highschool and then college.

gosh where should I start?!?!?
self-confidence, independence, decision-making, integrity, responsibility for one's actions, truthfulness, trust, following directions, cooperation, dealing with authority, learning to be part of a team, helping others, self-satisfaction, time-management, money management, solving problems, standing up for yourself, ...............................................
Many more skills can be developed that are truly beneficial. Everyone should experience this before deciding on college, a career, a major. You will learn valuable lessons in yourself and your abilities/short-comings....
