Put the jar into a plastic bag, and let it defrost in your fridge.

The bag is to protect anything else, if the jar cracks and starts leaking.

Don't run it under water - You'll just increase the risk of cracking the jar - then you have to throw out everything. If you defrost it in the fridge, you're less likely to crack the glass, and save what ever is inside.

Place it in cool or lukewarm water (hot water may crack or break the glass) for a few minutes, then attempt to open it. Repeat until it opens.

If you rinse with hot water, the metal lid will expand and you can easily loosen the lid by unscrewing it.
