We'd like to go to a casual place where a party of eight (non-New Yorkers) can sit down and have a GREAT sandwich with friendly service. Any place like that in Manhattan? We'll be there in June. Restaurant name and address (or at least a street or area) would be helpful. A website would be really helpful. Thanks so much!

The best delicatessan in New York is Katz's on the Lower East Side - On Houston and Ludlow Street. The sandwiches are huge - unless you have a tremendous appetite, you can share a sandwich and an order of fries. You will get an even bigger sandwich, if you sit in the self service area and tip the counterman a dollar when you order the sandwich. For a true New York experience, drink a Dr Brown's Cream Soda or Celery Tonic with your sandwich.

If you're uptown, you might enjoy the Cosmic Diner on Eighth Avenue and 52nd Street
