May the peace, blessings and mercy of God be upon you
I am a North American Muslim. I say this because I was born the United States, and then we moved to Canada in grade 4. But the point is that being in American Muslim allows you to be the fairest judge, that is because we understand both sides. The problem is Extremists do not understand Islam or Western Values and Western people do not understand Islam but rather see Extremists and equate them with Islam.
I do not feel we are different, we may be more educated (US Census shows Muslims are the highest educated minority). The thing is that people who do understand the religion may not know English as well, it is incumbent duty upon my self which I take responsiblity for as being an Ambassador of Islam. I am 18 years old and recently started University, but along with gaining worldly knowledge in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math, and Philosophy I study my religion as well.
I believe the lack of religious knowledge is the cause, because you see it is ignorance which creates fear. Why do you think we are afraid of the dark when we are little, its simple because we do not know what is there. The Qu'ran is a light, you simply have to read it for yourself.
Peace Be With You and May God protect us from the evil he ordained, the trials of this life, and most of all protect us from the Fire.

We are all unique. This is a silly question. The muslims the next block over will be different. Just like some proclaiming Christianity are concerned with delivering God's message of love and acceptance and others are interested in pointing out other cultures/religious/sexual orientation flaws. How is that Good News?

If you mean by the fact that I was raised in a white, Catholic family, then I would say I'm different than some Muslims in the Middle East, but the main beliefs are the same.
As-Salamu Alaykum - Peace be upon you.

They are in one way....they don't let screwed up twisted woman hating culture lead them. American muslims do their best to truly follow Islam, while others in other countries go purely by tradition and culture. I've seen it first hand on my trips to various places, mainly Pakistan. I even asked one of the brides, my sister in law's sister in law, why she was marrying a man she did not like. She said she had to. I asked her if she knew that Islam says she has the right to refuse. She looked at me and said "Culture is above Islam here. They follow tradition. Religion comes second".

The difference is that they are cowards who won't mobilize and speak against islamic terrorisim.
But they are willing to argue with people who begin to hate islam because the small amount of terrorist are so much louder than the 1.6 billion other muslims.
