Is not so much the mileage, but if the previous owner did the maintenance on the vehicle that counts. Cars require a lot of maintenance. (Brakes, oil changes, belt replacements, etc.) You could find a vehicle with low miles, but that doesn't mean is in top condition. Pop the hood, and check if the engine is clean. Check the hoses and belts. If you notice unusual wearing on the engine you are better off.

I hope this helps! Take your time and don't rush because the car looks nice. Believe me there is so much more to buying a car the smart way.

From my experience a car starts to need major repairs at around 100,000 miles. Doesn't mean that fixing the car is wrong, you just have to compare the cost of a new car against the cost of the repair against the cost of a repair. You can easily get beyond 100K miles if the car is well maintained.

For example, I have a car with about 160K miles on it. Kelly blue book says it's worth about $3K. Car needs clutch work, new fuel injectors for sure. Also just spent $1.5K on oxygen sensors and brakes.

Doesn't answer your question directly, but think about what I just told you and weight that against your knowledge of the vehicle your looking at. If the car is real inexpensive (under $10K) there is probably a big repair bill in the near future. Used cars are generally sold as is, and speaking for myself if i have a good reliable car I don't get rid of it.

It depends on many factors. I had a 1991 Dodge Dynasty that had 241,584 miles and ran like a top. I changed the oil regularly every 3,000 miles and got regular check ups. I traded it in when the CD player stopped working.

It really depends on the kind of car, and the owners. a car with 10,000 miles could be a peice of crap if no one took care of it. Then again, a car with 150,000 could be a great car, if it was taken car of.
I had a station wagon with over 200,000 miles on it.
