when our complexion depends upon the amount of melanin present in our skin then why do people use fair&lovely?

Most people are mistaken on this issue.

Normally when you are out in the Sun, without much protection for your skin, you obviously tan, thus making your skin look a little tanner than normal.
That is when people use creams like Fair & Lovely to erase off the tan from their skin. In such cases ,it is very effective and it will bring back the original color of the person with regular application of a few days.

Hello, I don't completely agree with others who have answered this question.Basically I have fair skin but due to stress and environmental factors I lost that glow on my face and also it became a bit darker when I was doing my 10th std.I used Fair & Lovely multi vitamin when I went to India and within one month I regained that glow on my face and within 2 months I became more fair and my pimple scars vanished.Also when I enquired about what multi vitamin creams do to my aunt who is a beauty therapist she explained that they protect our skin from environmental damage caused to our skin like from sunlight etc.I don't know about other fair and lovely products but loreal and other reputed companys also produce great fairness creams and multi vitamin creams.I believe that it can keep fair people fair and fresh without tanning.Frankly,I don't know how it works on very dark people.And also unlike some fake products shown on tv this product been widely used in India and elsewhere.Stupid and not working products don't succeed among people right?Now I use Orlane B21 cream and apply F&L multivitamin over it whenever I go out during daytime.They have helped me to gain fair and clear skin.

This shows their feelings regarding their dark colour. Fair and lovely gives some changes in their colour while they use it.(This may be their myth)

thats bcoz fair & lovely protects our skin from getting burnt and its obvious that one would look more dark if the skin gets burnt.......
