In order to have the best chance to survive, by birth in the spring they will be 6 months old when winter hits therefore more able to survive.

Because it is spring. The normal time for babies to be born in the animal world, for the most part. That allows them time to grow before harsh winter weather.

It is the spring time where their prey also has new babies. That is a good time to have kids because more prey available and therefore the chance of survival of the new borns are higher.
