I adopted two litter mates, a male and female both bother and sister. I was planning on spaying and neutoring them both but didn't make it on time, now my female cat got pregnant by her brother. does anyone know the side effects of this inbreding. the vet told me I could still spay her even though she was pregnant she just wouldnt have the kittens. does anyone have any informantion or site i can access to get more informantion on any complications that can arise from this inbreding.

The kittens will probably be alright. If your kitties carry any harmful recessive genes, the kittens are more likely to have whatever condition those genes cause, but even that's not certain because littermates may not have the same father - they might only be half-siblings and not have all the same genes.

If you want to keep the kittens, or if you know you can place them in good homes, then there's no reason not to let them be born and spay the mother afterwards. If you don't want to keep them and don't have homes lined up for them, then have your girl spayed now (which will abort the kittens.)

Either way, get the boy neutered now if you haven't already.

my father is a veterinarian and spayed a cat that was pregnant with three kittens. It can be done. I have also seen him spay a cat that had a kitten that was a "mongaloid" - most likely it will have genetic problems.

The kittens could be born dead or deformed. I would have them both neutered now, rather than wait & see. She's also awful young to be having kittens.

I had mine neutered after she had a "wild night" out in the front yard .....the neighbours commented......and she was fine.

they probably just wont live as long as normal cats. however, it's worse if a cat is breeded with it's parent. that's where the big abnormalities come in. extra toes, sight problems, big time intestinal issues...and they dont normally live that long. maybe a month or two max

Why didn't you ask the vet while you were there?
