I took my daughter and wife and they loved it. Depending on the age of your children or child, and the interest in the sport , this can be a fantastic time for you and your family.
I would definitely recommend hearing protectors. Either ear plugs or over the ear protectors can be worn. Sometimes you may want to use both because it can be very loud. Especially since the race can go on for a few hours. Race scanners with noise reducing over the ear units will also help. This way you can listen to the pit crews and the radio announcers during the race. It gets interesting sometimes. You can rent these at the track if you do not have any.
Being in the infield is a special treat, but you may not be able to see the whole track. Depending on the venue, I like the stands and grandstands. You will be able to see more of the race.
May I recommend taking some games and other things to keep you and the children occupied. It does get to be a long day. You may want to bring a small flexible cooler with you . Depending on the temperature and the weather. Another thing would be lightweight rain covers and seat cushions.
You can also walk around the outside of the track where they have vendors handling race gifts and souvenirs to food. They also have activities for the kids and adults.
Take your cell phones or two way radios so you can contact your spouse in case you get separated.
Have fun... Enjoy.....

I took mine and they loved it. They had headphones that they wound up only wearing part of the time. They also thought it was fun wearing the headphones. They loved the noise and the air blowing when the cars went buy. When the cars first start up and start going around it gets your ears kind of used to the noise which is the really loud roar when they scream by after the race starts. Just be prepared with snacks and stuff if they get bored which can happen.

I took my four kids in 2000 to the Sears Point (Infineon now) Raceway race. My kids were 9, 10, 11 and 13. The boys, the younger two, loved it and I could barely pry them off the fence. My oldest daughter screamed and cheered from her seat and I bought my younger daughter the headphones to wear. There is a live broadcast she listened to so she knew what was going on without the loud engines. We camped out for the weekend and that was the scary part! Our neighbors were drinking all night and riding there motorcycles around. That wasn't too bad until one lost control and it ended up in the middle of our tent, with my wife and I inside!!!
Would I take them again? In a heart beat!! Would they go again? In a heartbeat!

I haven't been to a NASCAR race but I have been to an American Le Mans race and it was the loudest thing I have ever been near, including concerts and a supersonic fighter flying 200 ft. over me in the mountains in California. To talk to my friend we would have to put our mouths up to the other's ear, like you would if you were whispering, and yell as loud as possible. If you have high quality shooting headphones it might be okay, but I still wouldn't do it. It is freakin loud. Really, really, loud.
Think about it this way, would you take a young child to a stadium rock concert, like U2 or the Stones?
Edit-All this is not to say that going to races is not awesome. Rent the scanner headphones, that sounds very cool.

I have gone to the track once (last year for the fall Talladega) and am planning on taking my Daughter to her first race this summer. It is a great place to take Kids. Lot better then some ball parks (Camden Yards, Lincoln Financial just to name a few; especially Lincoln Financial....in fact Humans with any self respect should never go to Lincoln Financial).
95% of NASCAR Fans are great wonderful people and know how to appreciate the sport. They also know how to handle the 5% who are complete intoxicated idiots. Security, Ushers, and Fans do all that they can to make the racing expereience a good one for everyone.....especially the Kids. Take them early Saturday to the midway....best expereience you can give the Kids. Fewer fans, more venders, and lots of great stuff.

I started going at the age of 5 at MIS, I remember that I liked to sit in the first few rows as a child, nowadays I dont. Bring earplugs, bring binoculars, bring a scanner for the child, bring a sandwich and a soda, just something for them to do while theyre in between. If not, theyll lose interest. I remember I did at a young age. Remember that A Busch race is alot easier for a young child to bare than a Cup race. Carl and Tony are in the Busch race too, so win-win.

I don't know what race you go to, but it isn't something to take small kids to. First off, it's really loud, and LONG, not as easy to watch as on TV and in Indy, HOT. However, if you sit behind the pits in Pit Terrace, there is a lot to walk around and see to break up the time, and to cool off. Still I wouldn't take anyone under 10.

I've taken all three of my kids. My sons like Stewart and Harvick. My daughter is a Mikey fan. We go in the infield at Atlanta and get to see the drivers when they walk to the garage. They love it. I reccommend that everyone that loves NASCAR that has kids share the experience.
