Depression is a feeling of hopelessness and no pleasure in life. If you let it go it can make you ill as if your brain isn't feeling well it will start making your body not well also. I have been there, you need to try to find somebody to talk to, try to stay away from the medicines doctors prescribe as they are bogus and usually screw up your system worse,. I find it funny that they think a pill will change the problems in your life all they do is make you feel different and can be even worse when trying to get off of them. Now days society tries to cure everything with a pill which is ridiculous. I have found the best way is to have someone to talk to, my doctor did way more good listening to the problems I had than any medicine that he tried to put me on. BUT DON'T LET IT GO IF YOU ARE FEELING THIS WAY!!!

I'm sorry, but I have to partially disagree with T B.

Everyone gets Sad, Blue, down in the Dumps, Discouraged, etc. This is normal. Now where T B was correct is when it is lasting a few weeks and you are lacking enjoyment in what otherwise entertains you then you are most likely depressed.

It takes a strong person to admit it and there is nothing wrong with it at all! In fact it's common.

Now here is where the disagreement comes in. They talked about how "Society wants to fix everything with a pill". Well that is right I suppose, except there are SOME things you need to get help with pills. Now for people who use pills for every small physical aliment for example, yeah ok you don't NEED to do that.

Depression on the other hand is a whole nother story! In fact Depression is a brain disease, only it is a disease that is curable. Many aren't knowledgeable to what Depression is, means and the treatment. With Depression it is quite often a chemical imbalance in your brain "brain disease". With the proper medication which is needed to balance you out again if you will. Along with talking to someone, but talking to someone alone isn't typically ever enough.

You ask what can happen to you if you leave depression untreated. Well the honest truth and the worst extend, but yet a very real possibly for those that go untreated is death as in committing Suicide.

I know what you’re thinking I’m sure, "I'm not having suicidal thoughts". Which is great! Doesn't mean you will, but if you let this go there is a good chance this will change. In fact with a chemical imbalance in the brain is so dangerous is because your life could be wonderful and you could have some great things happening to you, however you are still sad. Your thought process due to an imbalance will indicate to you that life is hopeless, everyone is better off with out me; I can't go on..........etc.

You don't want to get to this point so please try meds. Remember there are several because everyone’s body chemistry is different so if you find one med not working for you, don't be discouraged as it's quite common. A doctor just needs to find the right one for your body chemistry.

Good Luck to you!

I have had since my father passed away in '80 so, it's been one up and down roller coaster ride filled with drinking. But not so much anymore although I admit I've overdosed many a time I can say now it's been less crazy, but I still suffer from the anxiety, panic attacks, sadness, tiredness that depression can bring, but with loving support from my sister and mum, somehow I get through it all.

I looking for a Psychotherapist and have a wonderful Psychiatrist and though I'm not crazy about the idea of being on medication, it has helped me through a lot of the hurdles.

I will be opening my own web site eventually to help young people like yourself so that you may talk to others for support, some tlc and some kind words.

If you need to talk I'm here for you.
