Interesting question. What makes you think that God was not always there? Do you believe that something created God? Don't you think that the powers of good and evil probably have always existed.
Check out my question "Do you think the birth of the Red Heifers born in the 1990's is proof that the Messiah is coming soon?" Read my comment section. There is an important message for everyone.
NOTE: Watch the developments that take place in Israel related to a Temple that is going to be built on the Temple Mount in the near future. The Red Heifers born are related. Also, see the following link:

The answer is the same in all case, He existed when there was nothing, he was not made or created. So the answer to your question which by the way, Catholics are Christians, and have been longer than any other Christian brothren, is God was, is and is always going to be.
God bless and love you always

God is and has always been and will always be. There is no point of time of beginning and end for God.
As people, we cannot understand that because we measure existence on time. We see each other being born and dying. That is how we view life. We do not have the capacity to understand God's measure of time or the lack thereof for that matter.

Revelation 1:8 states:
"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "the one who is and who was and who is to come, the almighty."
Alpha is the fist letter of the Greek alphabet. Omega is the last letter.
God is revealing the truth that He (or She) is eternal. He has been here from before the beginning (the alpha) and will be here after the end (the omega).
God is also with us for every step along the way.
With love in Christ.

God did not come into existence. God transcends all things, including time. He created all things, and has no beginning and no end. Before all things, God is.

We are not told. We are only told that HE WAS. Thus HE WAS and because of HIM, we were created. I feel really fortunate that HE caused my existence, Don't You?? Have a great day.

He always was. God is something our mortal minds can't comprehend and to try and classify him and his existance will only lead to confusion. God always was, always is, and always will be.
