I am afraid to leave my children while they are still young
but not afraid to die

2007-02-01 06:04:12 · answer #1 · answered by Peace 7 · 1 0

Yes what if there is no other life after this life? What if as Aaron said this fear created an afterlife myth? What if atheists are right? What if on the other hand there truly is heaven and Hell? This uncertainty is what scares most people nowadays and the pain of course. People who claim to have had near death experience all recount how peaceful and lovely passing over is and if it was not for the love they had for their children, none wanted to return. I embrace the here and now philosophy that I should live my life to the fullest in loving relationships, in servitude to others (I am after all a priest) and in proximity to God. If there is no life after this one I would have lived at least one life, if there is more, living a good life will certainly prepare me to continue this good life in the next, and this takes out all fear of dying.

Everyone is afraid of dying - it is just something you experience once (well I have heard of people dying on the operating table and then coming back to life) - so naturally you will be afraid!

No.
I go to church but I'm not a Christian but, even though I feel hypocritical sometimes, it's very hard to get away from something I've been a part of since I was about 5.
I get really confused about God and afterlife because sometimes I believe and sometimes I don't but I'd hate it if there wasn't any afterlife.
I know it's not at all logical, but I think some things don't need to be. I hope there is a form of afterlife but I can't imagine there being a hell. I can't understand why any God could allow that.

I'm not afraid of dying but I'd be afraid how my teenage daughter would handle me being gone

Nope. Now I am a little bit weary over how painful it will be, but I know that I am not afraid of death- but that I will be excited to see my Savior face to face. But of course being human and we are weak at times, the physical aspect of it---not knowing how you die, always makes you wonder. But I am not afraid of death, no. And there is nothing in this world that holds me- I look forward to my real home!

As Woody Allen said: I'm not afraid of dying, I just don't want to be there when it happens.

to tell you the truth, I used to have nightmares about this and wake up with this fear that I may die. But as time has gone by I have found that that fear is not rational, because
#1: All of us are going to die
#2: The Lord has promised us eternal life for those who believe
#3: I have lived to live life at its fullest and when the day comes, I can honestly say, I am ready.
Keep God first, your neighbor second and yourself last and that fear will eventually subside.
God bless and love you always

Not at the moment. But if and when I do go I would prefer not drowing and possible if I could take a bullet for someone else. That would be decent. Also I don't like beheading too messy.

I am not afraid of death -- it's a natural part of the universe and it happens to us all sooner or later.

I am concerned about how well I will die, however. I'd prefer that it be relatively quick and pain-free, but of course we seldom get to choose these things.

It depends on a persons beliefs. Usually those who believe there is a afterlife are not scared to die because of the concept of immortality. People who dont believe in the afterlife are scared because there is only one life. People may also be agnostic on this issue.
