I just bought one and am wondering if it is really worth the cost (I got mine for $400)? Is there such a thing as "over mixing" with it? Can I just throw all ingredients in the bowl and "mix" or do I have to follow the recipe and mix things seperately?

Thanks for your advise!

If I'm not mistaken, this is the model that has the bowl which lifts rather than the top of the mixer lifting up. I have the one where the bowl lifts and to tell the truth, even though it's a bigger and a more powerful mixer, I'd prefer to have the beaters be able to lift out rather than wrangling the bowl underneath them. Just my two cents.

My mother has one - and I've used it - I have a smaller one.

It's no different than any other mixer - you can over mix things. No, don't just throw everything in and then mix. Follow the recipe. Professional bakeries don't dump everything in together, they follow recipes, and mix things in the right order, at the right times.
