I would say to wear a dress. Who knows? You may like it. People in High School just aren't ready for people to be anything but "normal". If you're ready to listen to the catty girls make fun of you, do what you want. As far as your girlfriend goes, maybe she's not ready to "come out" yet. Have you discussed this with her? Does everyone at school know your gay? FYI, yes a prom is sort of a coming of age ritual, but there are millions of people who never went to theirs for whatever reason, and suffered no trauma. It's just not that big of a deal.

Well this is a hard one. I think you have the right to wear what you want, but just be aware that some students may take the mick for the way you dress. Your girlfriend is all that really matters, talk to her and tell her what you really want to wear, she should understand. As for your Mother, well tell her that its only one night and its your night. Lol...Good Luck and have fun!

Wear a tuxedo dress, I have seen them and they are really hot. Black dress with cuffs only on the wrists and a bow tie choaker necklace. The body of the dress is black with a tuxedo white shirt inset and black tux buttons up the front. It is a dress, but looks to be a tux. I think it is a great way to compromise for your mom.
Have fun anyway you go and be yourself.

You can also choose to not go at all - that is another option.
If you are talking about wearing a suit /tux and taking your friend as a date....then I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. That could very easily bring ridicule on both of you. Maybe you don't care one way or another, but you are not the only person impacted.

I had a friend who was a lesbian....she was the maid of Honor at another of our friends wedding. She looked very silly in a dress. I joked with her telling her that she looked like a guy in drag. If your school will allow you to dress like a boy and both you and your girlfriend are out in the open with your sexuality. But it sounds like your girl friend wants to go with a boy herself. Maybe you should sit this one out.

ummm...we don't have many proms in England, but we do at my school and we have no choice between a suit or a dress; you have to wear a suit/dress according to your gender...but, I still advise a dress they are just so cool to go shopping for!! but, its completely up to you, dont be influenced by anyone.
