compared to non dominational or baptist...what do they believe that gives the penticostals the bad raps

I think the bad rap comes from what most more strict Pentecostals believe. The whole women can't cut their hair, wear skirts, no make up. It may also be speaking in tongues, healing through the power of touch, and their vibrate dancing, with singing at church and revivals.

The Pentecostal movement within Evangelical Christianity places special emphasis on the direct personal experience of God through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, as shown in the Biblical account of the Day of Pentecost. Pentecostalism is similar to the Charismatic movement, but developed earlier and separated from the mainstream church. Charismatic Christians, at least in the early days of the movement, tended to remain in their respective denominations.

Most major Pentecostal denominations reject any connection between personal salvation or conversion and the baptism in the Holy Spirit and teach that it is not necessary for salvation, but a gift from God available to all Christians regardless of denominational affiliation.

According to Christianity Today, Pentecostalism is "a vibrant faith among the poor; it reaches into the daily lives of believers, offering not only hope but a new way of living." [2]. In addition, according to a 1999 U.N. report, "Pentecostal churches have been the most successful at recruiting its members from the poorest of the poor." Brazilian Pentecostals talk of Jesus as someone real and close to them and doing things for them including providing food and shelter.

Pentecostals/charismatics believe that you need a second blessing, called "Baptism of the Holy Spirit", in order to be fully Christian. They believe that speaking in tongues is a sign (if not THE sign) of this baptism.

Pentecostals often look down on other Christians who cannot speak in tongues.

When a pastor and a group laid hands on me and prayed for me to receive the gift of tongues, nothing happened, and I was honest enough to say so (they tried more than once). This caused the pastor to prophesy that I had "hidden sin" that was preventing me from receiving the gift, and he slandered me by telling others in the church that I was doing really bad things, like sleeping with prostitutes.

Pentecostals and charismatics are the ultimate snobs.

Pentecostals believe in being baptized in Jesus Name and in receiving the Holy Ghost, also that you will speak with other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance.
The "bad rap" probably comes from the fact that we beleive the husband is the head of the household, and the wife is to live in submission to her husband. When you combine that with living a holy (long skirts, uncut hair, no make-up) and seperate life style people think we are strange.

Pentecostals (and since I am one, I know a little about it) get their name from the Day fo Pentecost once which God poured out the Holy Spirit for the first time on the Christian church (See Acts 2).

One of the "miracles" that happened on the Day fo Pentecost was that the disciples began to "speaking in tongues". It was one of many miracles that God performed regularly in the early church. Others included words of wisdom, words of knowledge, miracles, healings, prophecies, discerning of spirits, and the gift of faith. (See I Corinthians 12:8-10).

Pentecostals believe that those gifts are still in operation today. That miracles, healings, etc still happen. It is that believe which must separates them from the other denomination.

Generally, Pentecostal churches tend to be "lively". We like our music loud and fast. We clap, raise our hands, occassionally dance a little, and generally just enjoy God and church. My pastor is an ex-rock and roll band member who still like to rock and roll on Sundays. It is out of the Pentecostal (also called Charismatic) movement that much of the contemporary Christian music and services got its start.

Some of the older Pentecostal group are known for their "strictness". No make up for women. Dresses only. Etc. But those are in the minority of the churches.

What gives them the "bad rap"? Who knows.

We believe that the gifts of the Spirit such as praying in tongues are available today, some Pentecostals insist that you must practice the gifts all the time and others believe that it's not necessary only when needed.

They believe the whole bible, like speaking in tongues, interpretation, prophecy, word of knowledge, word of wisdom etc. The bible never said these gifts stopped, they are available to us today. Now if you are talking about the United Pentecostals, that is a different story.

Allah is the Arabic appropriate call for God or the wonderful Being. Arab Christians and Jews communicate over with God as Allah besides. As for Jesus, the Arabic notice for Jesus is Isa (stated Eesa). Universally, Jesus develop right into a guy; and God or Allah is unseen. For the Muslim, we've self belief in organic monotheism. We have self belief in one God with out companions or sons or daughters. maximum Christians declare monotheism yet say God is 3 in one (Trinity) or say He has a son.
