I have three cats. I Use a Robolitter cat box, which all have been using with no problem. All of a sudden, my siamese has been using the floor outside the box, rather than the box itself - I can't stand it! Nothing has changed. The cat box litter is the same brand as always, and (because its robo) it's always clean. Help!!

While it isn't uncommon for cats to change their preference of cat litter suddenly, I would recommend that you first take your cat to a veterinarian to make sure there are no physical causes for the sudden change in behavior. Some cats are prone to urinary tract infections, which makes peeing painful and cats begin to associate the pain with the litterbox and therefore will go elsewhere.

If a thorough health check at the vet's does not come up with a solution, I would try offering a second litterbox with the same litter first. If that does not work, try offering a different brand or type of litter. But get a health check done first.

I would try switching litter brands, or get a new regular litter box for that cat. Some cats over time decide they don't like certain litter brands. You may need to purchase a new litter box if you have had the Robolitter for a few years as old litter boxes can getting smelly (the cats can notice the smell and we can't). Perhaps the cat wants the litter box moved to another location? Another idea to try.
If you are still not sure why the cat is doing this it is a good idea to make sure the cat doesn't have a UTI or some other health issue. Good luck,,,,,

We had a similar problem with our cats recently, and one of the things the vet told us was to spray what my cat peed on (the beds, ugh) with citrus scented air freshener. We did this and also closed the door to the rooms (which wouldn't help you). The problem did stop, but unfortunately, I don't know how much to account for the spray because the door was closed.

Also, try getting another litter box, I know when my old cat, who was very picky, thought that too many cats were using the litterbox, he wouldn't use it, even if it was clean.

I don't know how much this will help, so I guess my best advice is ask the vet...

maybe it's developed a problem with not having it's own litter box. Is the siamese the dominant cat? if so....try getting one that only that cat uses.

When we had 3 cats all was well also, until the same problem happened to us.Besides pooping next to the litter box one of our young men decided to poop on our bed> This was totally a nasty surprise to come home to. We solved the problem by adding another covered litter box with scoopable litter and that seemed to solve our problem. Maybe it was a privacy issue. Good luck!!

Buy a reg. cat box and put it on the other side of the room. Put baking soda and multi cat litter in it. Clean it at least once a day. This cat must have smelled something she didn't like in the old one.

When any animal changes behaviour suddenly like the cat has we look for medical cause. Your cat may be trying to alert you to a urinary problem! When animals go off their normal potty routine and start messing where you will notice it is done to get your attention.

I would encourage you to consult your vet now. Cats are prone to urinary problems, especially Siamese.

If the two cats are not getting alongside nicely they may well be attempting to mark their territory, there is different issues there is different issues made for which you may desire to purchase on the community puppy shop like cat repellents to cause them to quit

Cats can get stressed over any little thing, and use the floor instead. But keep and eye on it, it my be a medical probelm instead of a mental.
