Despite what we often hear on the news, or see on TV shows, comas seldom last for years, and usually don't last more than a few weeks. According to interviews, not all patients experience the same things while in a coma. Some people have stated that it was as if they were asleep. They saw images, and remembered experiences they had before the coma. Fewer say that they were often aware of what occurred around them, and could hear voices and feel touch, but were unable to respond. Many also say they don't remember what it was like. They realize time has passed, but nothing they remember accounts for the lapse in time. Unfortunately, most people wake from comas and need to be retrained in doing the simplest tasks, such as walking, talking, and feeding themselves. Unfortunately, the largest group is the least likely to be able to answer the question.
