you can fry braising steak, that's how to start to cook it, fry it very gently in a little oil for a few minutes each side, throw in some sliced onions, add a 1/4 pint of water, then 2 beef stock cubes now you can put your steak in a cooking dish, with a lid on, put the steak on the middle shelf on a low to medium heat, you can also put it in a pan on top of the oven with a lid on but on a low heat good luck.

How good are your teeth? Will taste good but might be a bit difficult to masticate.

Note to Chef Mark - would you be USA? I think we have a language difference. In UK "braising steak" is a well-known name for an indefinite cut of beef which is superior to "stewing steak" ie shin etc, but which requires slow cooking.

You don't braise a steak.

You braise tough cuts of meat such as the chuck, brisket, short rib or shank.

If the steak is from the strip, tenderloin, sirloin, or rib, then you should saute, grill, or broil.

No- it will be tough- it is a cheaper cut of meat that needs long slow cooking. Don't be tempted to do it too quickly and ruin it- persevere- it is just the weather for casseroles!!
