For a variety of reasons -
they were raped
they don't have enough money to take care for a child
they simply don't want a child
they are young and don't want their parents to know they are pregnant (so adoption wouldn't be an option for them)
they wanted to be pregnant but found that their child has some sort of birth defect/illness that they wouldn't want their child to live with

the list goes on..
I agree with abortion, as long as you don't use it as a means of birth control.

Abortion is not "selfish", to whoever said that. Open your mind a little bit. Think about what some of these women have gone through and must go through during and after they have their abortion.

I think it's a deeply personal answer that can't best be summed up unless you've gone through it. For some, it's a method of birth control, which I and many others find highly deplorable. Accidents happen, yes, but a child is not an 'accident' and if you are old enough to be having sex, then you should do so with protection.

Others might have an abortion if the baby has pervasive birth defects that might otherwise end its life or mean a very limited existance. This is another ethical issue. Some argue that if the baby is going to die anyway, then let it die on its own when the time comes, rather than intervene medically. Others might choose to have an abortion after a rape if they become pregnant, and still others might have one if their health were to become seriously compromised should they become pregnant. If this is the case, then they should be especially careful about using birth control.

While some use it as a form of birth control, I don't consider women who've had one (as opposed to many) to be in that group - there are probably economic, financial and emotional stresses that make having a child very difficult. But I would suggest adoption rather than abortion in this case. But that's just me.

There have been cases of women aborting when birth defects were suspected via ultrasound, which is horrible considering u/s isn't 100% accurate. A woman in England aborted her baby because it had cleft palate, a perfectly treatable condition that in no way would have negatively impacted the child's health. SOme consider this 'designer baby' phenomenon where people want to choose a perfect baby for themselves. And in some countries, like China, a child might be aborted depending on the sex, i.e. females. Now there are many, many more males than females in that country yet they still, strangely enough, support their stance on decreasing the number of female births.

My mother was 16 years old when she got pregnant she was immature and scared of everything that was happening to her for she didn't have anyway of taking care of a child and on top of that she was scared of her father for she was attacked by him many times.. She had an abortion and to this day she doesn't spend one minute without thinking of that child she cries every year on his or her expected due date.. shes 52 years old now and still carrying that pain. I'm 100% against abortion but I only hold that towards myself yes I see it as being very wrong but you know what everyone else in this world has there problems and there reasons so dont be so quick to judge people for chosing it especially since they may be hurting for sometime after it as well its not an easy thing or decision to make....

I hope a lot of people open there eyes to why someone would do this.. Don't get me wrong im not saying that its right but sometimes for some its the only way out...

I hate abortions, but I don't hate people for getting them. I have this thing as to a innocent baby shouldn't die because you are irresponsible.

There are reasons that verify, like if a women or teen girl gets raped and is pregnant after wards. I could understand them not wanting or being able to have a child by a unknown or known person they weren't even interested in.

Second, some people especially teen girls know that they can't afford to be mothers, which isn't much of an excuse, but I think some girls get confused with guys at young ages, especially with the whole "I love you and no one else" phrases, or thinking these guys will actually stick around if she gets pregnant. There have been girls who have made that mistake, got the abortion and took responsibility from then when having sex.

My older sister, when she was around 17, she got pregnant by this older guy she was dating, who was also married, and had kids of his own. He was about 30, 31, 0r 32. Well, she knew that he wouldn't actually be there, he barely sees his kids, his wife would find out, and she was still in school. I was upset, but I didn't hate her for getting the abortion.
She's now 24, pregnant by my friend who is 18, but she's keeping the baby, my nephew is due in March or April, and I'm proud of her!

Is sooo easy for other people to judge or answer this question when they have not gone through it. I personally would not (and I'm not catholic)unless there was something terribly wrong w/the baby or in the case of rape.

I have always thought that it's a privilege to have a child. I am so blessed to have my daughter. Yes, there are days she may drive me nuts but I thank God for her.
There are to many ignored, abused, abandoned, unloved children in this world that I'd rather a woman make the choice (and I'm sure it's not an easy one...and if it is they especially shouldn't have the child) then have the child and it be mis-treated in any form.
Before you judge....walk in their shoes. JMHO

I personally would never get one; not even if I became pregnant because of a rape! But thats because I feel that it's not the babys fault! But women get abortions for alot of differant reasons. The one reason that I think is the awfulest is just because they think of it as a form of birth control; instead of the pill or condoms. It's just a personal choice that I don't personally agree with!

Im not agree with the abortions, watching some forums, the most reason for abortions are:
Not prepare to pay all the needs of the new member of the family
Irresponsable father and mother (That means that they do not want to be in charge of the childs care, but they want to continue having sex without protection). In my opinion, stupid way of think.
Scare of mother and father of a young lady having a baby.

In my opinion, the people that do that have a lot risk and also someday will pay for that murder.

I hope this works for you.

I want to believe that those who choose to do this do not see it as murder because they do not see the baby as a baby yet. They do not understand the whole of it, the repercussions of it on thier lives but I do know that when it really hits you what you have done, it ends up hurting you. I hope with this question will open others eyes as to what they are doing.

because sometimes people dont want to have a baby.

sure it's selfish, but if that child were to be brought into this world only for more suffering from a parent that didnt want them?
the child isnt asked to be born...but if the parent doesnt want it, then abortion is an option that they do have...
