I just got a tattoo on Tuesday night. I am at work all day until 8PM, I don't have any Neosporin to keep it mosturized, all I could scrounge up from co-workers is Aloe Vera Gel (used to relieves burns, sunburns, etc) and Suave Mosturizing Cocoa Butter Lotion. Would either one of these be okay to use for the time being?? I need help ASAP. Thanks!

I was told by the artist to use Neosporin for 3 days, all artists give a little different care instructions, I was just curious if the Lotion or Aloe Vera would be okay.

Just checked, both have some sort of alcohol. Lotion has Cetyl Alcohol and the Aloe Vera has Alcohol 40-B SD (if anyone knows the difference). Oh what to do what to do...

Everyone tells me not to use Neosporin. Is there a reason why? That is what I was told to use by my artist for a few days after I got my tattoo. All of the artists in that particular shop tell everyone to use Neosporin for a few days. Seeveral of my friends and family members have gone there also and have used the Neosporin as reccomended and their tats healed wonderfully.....

I work for my dad, co-workers are not random people, they are mostly family and if not then close friends of the family.

Ok, all of the Neosporin haters read this...or anyone curious about tattoo after-care, you should read this article about different methods for tattoo after care and why different artists give different directions...it is very interesting...

...and BTW I am not allergic to anti-bacterial goop, including Neosporin

since you work for family, i am sure they wont mind if you took a short break to run go get a tube of A&D or Neosporin to keep at the office... you all should have some of that anyway... use your trip to re-stock the office first aid stuff as well!
Anyway, I used both Neo and A&D and all was well.. after the first week I used Burt's Bees Carrot Nutritive and the Baby bum lotion and it was great. No scabbing at all, minimal itching! I'd recc. it to anyone.
Congrats on your new tat! -dd

Yep... Seems like the Cocoa Butter would be better. Infact I NEVER used Neosporin on my Tattoo anyways?! I used A&D for three days... BUT a little Trick is to put Lotion on it and wrap it in Plastic wrap... keeps in the moisture

Neosporin pulls the color from your tattooo - that's why it's a no no in terms of use. I would go out at lunch and buy a new container...don't use random people's lotion on your tattoo...it's still a wound.

UR NOT SUPOSED TO USE THAT!!!!!!!!! DONT USE THE GEL OR THE COCO BUTTER, GOD!!! TRY TO FINE A CHICK W/ JUST REG LOTION READ THE INGREDENTS!!!! IT CANT HAVE FRAGRENCE OR ALCOHAL!!!!!!!!!! OR GO TO THE REST ROOM AND GET THE ANIBAC SOAP AND WASH IT, IT WILL WORK FOR A LIL WHILE.
MOST ARTIS WILL TELL U TO USE WHAT EVER THEY TELL U BUT THEY ALSO SAY IN A SITU. USE REG LOTION WILL BE OK JUST CANT HAVE A FRG. OR ALCOHAL.

I have been told never to use neo - Use the aloe that would work. Your best bet is tattoo-goo or Burts Bees
