What a thoughtful friend you are.
Most vets have a plan called Care Credit, that your friend can apply for. However, I have a list of links to organizations that may be able to help you. Your friend need to fill out applications, and I have no idea how long it takes to be approved. I know know one of the links looks like it will be for cats, but I believe it is for all pets.
Good luck to your friend. I hope her dog can gets well quickly. Poor doggy.

they could do it themselves, or have a friend in the medical proffesion do it. it isnt as hard as a real surgury to do an amputation. thats why way back when they did so many of them. and with whats available to the avg. person today in terms of anesthetics and cutting tools.an idiot could do a better job then the most trained professional 100 yrs ago. sometimes if you cant afford a professional you have to do it yourself. now go into ANY vet office and start asking if you could perhaps just buy the things needed. give them the rational i just gave you. and be make sure to bring the dog along cause theyll be begging you to work out a payment plan !

Call the local humane society. Some do offer financial aid for responsible pet owners. The vet may offer payment plans too. If the dog survives please make sure your freind doesn't let it run free or let it find it's way to the road again. Good luck!

Use Yahoo search and find animal Aide places in your town or the nearest city. Hope that helps. Also, the Vet could cut her some slack if she is nice to him and is sincere.

Have her apply for care credit. They have multiple options for repayment that are same as cash.
http://www.carecredit.com
On the right hand side of the page it has a drop down menu for types of doctors. Select veterinary, and a list of doctors in your area who accept the plan will be shown.

Why not have a fundraiser, like a car wash or something, to help with the costs? Everyone could help and it's for a good cause!

have a fund raiser, a soup supper, something like that and ask for free-will donations
pet insurance is a great thing to have, unfortunately if she gets it now, the surgery won't be covered, but in the future it would be a good thing to look into

Tell her to ask the doctor if she can make monthly payments, I think he/she will understand.
