I'm looking for a good digital camera that'll take high quality pictures AND let me take movies. And not those short movies but it'll convert to a movie digital recorder.
And I need one that's a very good price because I'm broke.

I forgot that it has to have very good zoom capabilities. Or even better, it's capatable with a zoom attachment.

I have a really tiny little Casio that takes good pictures and movies too. It's really small and easy to take anywhere and I'm happy with it.

My rule of thumb with ANY electronics is this: Never buy the latest and greatest. The reason being is that it will be outdated the minute you walk out of the store. Now that isn't to be confused with buying the best brand. Certainly some manufacturers are better at making cameras that others.
If I were you, I would stick with a good brand. My personal favorites are Canon and Nikon. I personally own a camera from the Nikon Coolpix line and it's easy to use, cheap, and has held up reasonable well. Mine doesn't take movies, so you'll have to research which cameras even do that. You may find that the quality of movies on digital cameras isn't quite what you are looking for. The technology is still in it's infancy, which is why there are still digital recording devices still on the market. If you want to take video, you are better off getting a digital recorder that can take still photos. The price range is quite different, but you need to assess what the main priority of the camera is going to be.
If know this answer didn't give you an exact model to buy, but I think you have some researching to do in terms of how you are really going to use this thing.
From my experience, a "jack of all trades" anything does a lot of stuff half ***, but nothing really well.

For best results you shoud get two different cameras. Nowadays is very common to see devices that can do many tasks, but they only do one thing properly.
For the video camara go with Sony. They are the best in the video business.
For the still pictures camera could be a photograph well known company like Kodak, Nikon, Fuji, Pentax, Olympus that's what they did before the digital era, pictures so why look somewhere else.

the best i've used (for the money) is canon powershot A540 ($173) the vidz aren't that great, they're okay, but in ANY affordable digital camera they're not going to be that great.
The PowerShot A540 packs a vast array of additional high-end features into a remarkably compact space, including:
Canon's DIGIC II image processor and iSAPS technology for fast, superb results
Accurate focusing with 9-point AiAF1
ISO 800 shooting
Widescreen (16:9) stills recording
30-frame-per-second VGA movie recording
2.5-inch LCD with Night Display and Grid Line Display

Pentax Cameras give you tons of options for taking still photos and for taking movie. The length of the video you want to take will depend on the size of your SD memory card. Check out www.jr.com for prices and different models. They have everything at that site plus cheap shipping and great customer service. If you are still having trouble deciding which camera to purchase, email them and I am sure they will be able to help you out more.

I have a 2-3 year old Kodak and I swear it is the best camera I've ever had. It takes movies and the pictures are really good, and when you print them out on the printer it is almost like they were film.
