In my life i have rescued many dogs, I have many stories, but one always stands out. Napoleon the Alaskan Husky (Note: Alaskan Huskies are NOT Siberian Huskies).
As an animal control officer you always have one dog that is your arch enemy. This dog was so wise and cleaver he would evade me and his owners at all costs. He could escape any fence, and chain, and any restraint. The owners and I would do everything but he could never be caught and eventually he would just head home when he was done frolicking. He was a pain in the butt outside of his home, but in it he was sweet, loving, and well mannered. His owners did all they could to be good owners and we never gave them a hard time. They had rescued Napoleon and his littermates from being buried alive by a owner/breeder that didnt want the extra dogs. One day he dissapeared, the owners called frantic he didnt come home as usual, the weeks went by and only a few sightings and tips came in, 3 months were gone and the owners gave..

up. I lived 25 miles from the owner, and one day I was walking my highly dog aggresive Dalmation Foster dog about 2 miles from home. Out of the bush a ghost of a dog appeared. It was Napoleon, he was a former shadow of himself, all bones, and his back leg shredded and useless. I knew if I went to him he would run. So I sat down and called him over. He came and my Dal, didnt even bark or growl, he went to Napolean and kissed his face. He wouldnt let me carry him so he made the 2 mile walk home alongside my Dal, then as we neared my house he colapsed. I gathered him up and rushed him in. Calling his owners who couldnt believe it. We rushed him together to the U of Minnesota. Afer hours of surgery, he lost his leg but not his life. They also found he'd been hit by a car, Shot 3 times, and trapped in a steel jaw trap. He fought long and hard, after 3 months of Physical therapy and loads of bills. He recovered and never left his yard again!!! What a dog!
