Religion is nothing but a long and rusty piece of malarchy. We need religion to prove our God right and other's wrong. A Christian would never advise a person to go and believe in Lord Rama. A Hindu would never advise a person to go and believe in The Great Allah.
Every religion thinks their version of God is right. People might strongly object to what I said, but that is the truth ! And that is the irony of every religion. And that is the reason why we have so many religious divisions. We definitely need more and more opponents to fight and prove that their beliefs, faith and Gods are wrong !
We should not be amazed at how many divisions we have got. We should be amazed at how foolish and egoistic we are when it comes to God whom none of us have known nor will ever know as we are too thrilled to preach and talk about idol worship, heaven, hell and discipline !

Interested idea - but become one around what? No eating pork? Conducting Jihads? Taking communion?
As soon as you ignore the person of Jesus and what is believed about him, you have gutted the Christian religion. And there is no gospel to be preached around the world. Jesus's death (which the Muslim's reject) and resurrection (which the Jew's reject) is the gospel.
So sorry, you can not toss out Jesus, all become one, and still preach the gospel (which means Jesus crucified and resurrection) to the whole world. Contraction in terms.

And we should compromise on truth to do it? The reason we're divided is that some of us don't believe the Bible as God intended it. It would be wrong to compromise our convictions in order to be "One". Even if we took down the official barriers, we would still be divided in our minds.
And not all of us believe in the one true God. For instance, some of us believe that God reveals himself in many ways but is still one, while some of us believe in a "God in three persons" and pray to each component. That's the same as having three Gods.
This doesn't mean that we can't cooperrate and extend brotherly love to one another, though.

I don't know...but it occurs to me that God may be waiting patiently for us to find a way to live with respect and tolerance towards each other.
We are all different, and perhaps its a blessing that each of us has a place where we feel we fit in. Churches and people do not have a patent on truth...only God, in the end, can say what real truth is.

Wow. You know the Mind of God??? After HE split men up at the Tower of Babel, HE said that He was come to bring a sword, HE said he would cause division between father and son, mother and daughter... the war between good and evil is not going to end just because YOU want it to end. God has His Purpose, which YOU are obviously not privy to.

Judaism is an exclusive religion that was never meant to be inclusive. What kind of loving God of "all" has chosen people, then commands those chosen people to rape, pillage, and plunder non-chosen people? If the god of the Old Testament wanted unity, he wouldn't have created division.

People have varying views on areas of the same religion, and then choose to divide themselves int sects. Each one having common beliefs about the same religion, but varying slightly. For example, Catholics put more emphasis on baptism.

It's a natural behavior of humans.
One wonders why you also don't have one great big store in New York City or why we have different makes of cars; or why some folks drink beer while others drink Rum or vodka.
