why do people you know for years change everything about themselves just to try and make someone else happy why do they lie to this person about everything are people really that insecure

It's one thing to realize something negative about yourself and try to change yourself. It is another thing to do something because you want someone.
If someone is putting a facade on for someone else, it will eventually come out into the open. I don't think anyone is worth this amount of effort.

Yes, many people are like that, changing their minds only to satisfy another people or belong to certain gruop even if those are not their own ideas. Just to be one of them

sometimes people have low self esteem. sometimes people think their lives arnt that facinating and tell someone what they want to hear. maybe they are in love!
