you tell him you need to talk to him and say " hey i want to get to know you better because i like you"

Well, being a guy myself, I'd NEVER like another guy. I'm not gay but given the circumstances here, I'll play along.

What the heck is wrong with " Hey, you know I like you don't you"?

It's not that hard but you'll have to grow some (forgive the expression) balls and just do it. Trust me, you'll love the outcome and you'll be happy when it's over.
