Katy - I think both are needed. Some people truly do not have time to give, so if they give money generously that is very, very important and not all people are good at giving time. Giving money allows them to help in the way they best can.
Giving of your time is a very special gift. There are many who are good at giving time and they can change peoples lives. They may not have money to give...but time they can.

Good question. What's important is that what is given is what is needed. donating money is fine--and necessary--many needs reuuire specific goods (ex: food). Others require time and effort (like teaching an illiterate person to read).
I don't support the idea of just giving money (though for some, the demands on them do preclude much else) for two reasons. First, for the person who needs help, even if it is superficially just a shortage of food, etc., being the recipient of an impersonal gift is only part of the solution. Human contact--knodwing someone cares--that has to be communicated on a personal basis.
The other reason has to do withthe effect on the giver. Its alltoo easy to write out a check and pat yourself on the back---and forget that there are real people out there who are suffering asnd struggling.
And, BTW, tha above shows the hypocrisy of the conservative (so-called) claim that "helping people through charity/social programs just makes them dependants." These people have never bothered to get to know those who need help--they'd never get out of their front-row pew in church and get their hands dirty. So they never find out that the problem is THEM. Just handing someone money is debilitating--true. But when that is coupled with a caring human presence--when it comes from a person who extends emotional support and encourageent--in short the friendship Christ commanded--that gift becomes an encourgement--a hope that inspires. I have see n this play out many times.
But the Pharisees who write their checks-to organizations that don't really provvide help--or prate about "not making people dependant"--will never know what it means to really help another human being in pain. They've had their reward--in the approval of their fellow Pharisees every Sunday morning.

Well TIME and MONEY are the two most important resources for doing anytype of goodwork
If you have someone TIME you need the MONEY to equip them to be able to do service.
Currently in our Church, we need both more TIME and MONEY from our members. However, I would be more pleased to have more TIME because we could do more and have a more positive effect with the MONEY that we have.
The more people you have giving TIME to the ministry of the church the better stewards they are being the church's resources and their own gifts and abilities.

If you are in the work force, it is often difficult to allot time to work at the church - especially during the week. Donations can be budgeted and money contributions are, of course more valuable.
After retirement, it is often more valuable to donate time at the church. Much of the day-to-day work at our church is done by retirees ages 60-75. Most of these also contribute money.
After age 75 or so, it is often too difficult to do much work.

Donation of Time is way better than donation of money.
I think showing others you care is better than giving money... to organizations that don't use it for what you send it to be used for.
Donating your TIME is much more meaningful

I don't know which is better.
All I know is that I don't have enough money to give. So, I give what I have; time!
This way works for me. I never have to wonder if my money is being misused and I get to see the impact of my help right there.

Unless your money is inherited, it represents time; the time it took you to earn it.
Donating time in the form of money is valuable, because there are *material things* that are needed to help people. Time in the form of direct physical action is also needed.
I don't think that one is "better" than the other - they are BOTH vitally important..

To those who have no time, money is a better option.
To those who have no money, time is a better option.
The main idea is to fulfil our Christian responsibilities in the upbuilding of the earth in whatever way makes sense, and in accordance with our own giftings.
