The Qu'ran was REVEALED to the Prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him thru the archangel Gabriel. The Original Writings of what was spoken are preserved. The Qu'ran didn't just magically fall from the sky in a book form.
There are 2 of the 7 ORIGINAL Manuscripts still in existence. One is in Istanbul and the other in Tashkant. The Tashkant one also includes a rare sample of the Prophet's hair, its an intersting historical artifact

Its true, Mohammed (pbuh) was illiterate, but as the revelations came down from the Angel Gabriel, they were documented by scribes on whatever they could find. The khalifa Uthman bin Affan brought it all together into one book. One of the orginals is in Turkey, go to link below for pics: http://www.themodernreligion.com/basic/history/OLD_PICS_quran.htm

Parts of the original Qur'an were written down on palm leaves, so it is not possible that the "original" was preserved. Besides, there ane literally more than one version of the Qur'an in circulation (a fact that most Muslims either don't know or don't acknowledge), so which one is the original anyway?

The Qur'an is produced by man, as the teachings of Allah. Mohammed, who could not write and was illiterate, recited the words of the angel Gabriel to the followers of Allah, who wrote down the teachings of Allah as the Qur'an.
Al-Salamu Alaykum - Peace be upon you.
