It's more size than it is age. It generally has to do with the ability of front seat belts to hold a small body in place during a crash, not to mention the threat of a passenger-seat airbag smacking a kid in the head rather than the chest, as it is designed to hit the chest on an adult. As a general rule of thumb, once your child is over about 4'6" and more than about 75 pounds they should be safe to ride up front.

Different states have different laws though (I know for sure that some say 4'9" and 80 pounds and others have an age specification of over 12 to ride up front). Check locally to see what the laws are. If they are lax, then I would say about 4'6" is plenty big enough to sit up front.

The regulation is 20 lbs AND 1yr previous. that is an previous regulation and that's now stated which you go away a baby interior the RF place as much as the seats skill, which on the forged ones is around 33- 35 lbs. infants are maximum secure dealing with backwards, because of the fact their bodies are cradled via the seat interior the form of a crash. even although he might in basic terms be on your mom's automobile some circumstances, what if that is while the smash ensue. I even have 3 Britax Boulevards for my truck, my husbands automobile, and my mom's automobile. those seats have been $3 hundred+ each and each and that i do no longer care because of the fact i be attentive to my baby is risk-free. you may get good, risk-free convertible seat with around the comparable weight limits for greater reasonably-priced, that is basically the seat I chosen. My daughter would be 2 next week and remains dealing with backwards and probable nonetheless would be this time next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days as she is basically 23 lbs. good success! EDIT** additionally basically fyi for the reaction above you need to purchase FF seats that are nonetheless a 5 factor harness and not a booster, yet staying RF is greater effectual

I've always heard 12. My son is 8 and sits in the back seat. There is a greater risk of death in case of an accident in the front seat for young kids.

It appears the most common answer is all children 12 and under need to ride in the back (and most will still need to be in booster seats). The biggest problem that front seat passenger riders face is the airbag, since most cars are now equipped with dual front air bags. If ever in doubt, the back seat would be the place.

The back seat is much safter than the front seat, as long as there is a back seat available my son will be sitting back there even after he's twelve. But my son is on the small side anyway.

The usual age is 12, but it has more to do with their height. I once asked a friend of mine who is a highway patrolman about it. I was worried that even though my daughter was 12 that she still wasn't tall enough. He told me that if they are tall enough for the seat belt to fit them properly then they are tall enough to ride in the front seat. If the seat belt doesn't fit then they shouldn't ride in the front even if they are 12.

They should sit in back until they're 12. I always cringe when I see little kids getting out the front seats of cars..

I would say mabey about 12.
♥Newborn-of course too too young.
♥1 to 5-still too young
♥6 to 9- can't sit still, doesn't put seat belt on, and not at weight
♥10 to11- not the right weight
♥12 and up- right weight and age to sit in front
hoped I helped! ♥

In Tx it is a hight, age, weight thing, they must be 12 years old and weigh a certain number of pounds and be so many inches tall. They have to meet all three requirements I think, but can't be for certain.
