That is such an easy fix. Go buy a new DVD burner and put it in. It is only four screws and two connections. One connection is the IDE ribbon and the other is the power connections. Just open the side panel on your case. First make sure it is unplugged. Then look at how it is connected and connect the same way. It is so simple to do. After this you will probably start building your own rigs. That's how I got started. Get your hands dirty bro, you will thank me later. Oh yeah a DVD burner will burn CD-ROM and DVD-ROM. So it is better to upgrade to a DVD burner.

If there is no disk or obstruction in the tray, the door eject mechanism is probably broken. If this is the case, rather than to waste money on having someone try to fix it, your best bet is to start shopping for a new cd burner. CD burners arent real expensive and you can find one for 35 bucks. If you take it to the local PC repair shop, theyre gonna charge you 150 and all they will do is put a new unit in. The directions are usually straight forward and simple to follow. There is no special software to install other than the burning software that may come with it. You can use your old burning software or install the new software!

You probably have a broken or stripped tooth on the gear that opens and closes the door. The price to fix it - assuming you could find someone who would sell you only the little gear - would probably be as much as a new unit. Replace it with a new drive.

By FAR....It is cost effective to get a new one....Get another that has more features than the one that you have...I know...it costs.....But for what you'll spend to fix your current one...You'll be better off to spend a few more bucks and get something better.
It'll take the sting away a bit....
Good Luck!!!!
